Click To Tweet is a very powerful tool for anyone who wants to have a social media presence, it’s especially useful on sites like Twitch and YouTube. It actually amazes me how many people don’t know about Click To Tweet. Because of this, I’ve decided to write up this quick guide on what Click to Tweet is and how you should be using it.
Click to Tweet – Is a site that allows users to make a pre-made tweet which can then can be made into a link that viewers can click to help spread the word about your stream or other media. This is very powerful tool for streamers as it will help get your brand out there with the support of your community. The most efficient way it can be used is by having a bot or a mod post a command in chat allowing viewers to access the link.
I want to take a brief moment before I begin the guide to explain why streamers should use Click To Tweet. Quite simply it helps get your brand out on Twitter because when you use hashtags in a tweet on Twitter it’ll put the tweets into targeted trending lists which means you can get your brand discovered on those lists. Now imagine… ten viewers tweet your stream out using your Click To Tweet? That will mean your Twitter account is in the targeted trending lists ten times meaning you’re more likely to be discovered. It just really helps get your name out there for others to see. It can also be used for fanfare after someone using the ctt as you can thank the viewer to let them know you appropriate their efforts and praise feels good.
To start go to https://clicktotweet.com/ and connect your Twitter account to the website. Once you’ve logged in you’ll be presented with a text box with a button underneath saying generate link. This is where you will make your tweet. Like a normal Twitter post it is limited to 140 characters so you have to think carefully how best to use the limited amount of characters. Here are some things I highly recommend having in your tweet; a mention using the @ symbol with your Twitter name (@twittername). This is so you can see who has retweeted your content via your Twitter notifications tab. It’s also important to note that if your @ is at the beginning of the tweet you should put a ‘ . ‘ before it otherwise it won’t work, for example: “.@twittername is streaming… etc.”, two #’s which will put the tweets into appropriate trending lists which will make the tweets easier to discover. For this I would recommend adding the game title and developers as your hashtags and finally a link to your stream so people know where they need to go.
Once you’ve made the tweet you’ll need to click on the “Generate Link” button. This will send you to another page which will display a preview of your tweet along with some statistics that will allow you to see data surrounding your Click To Tweet, for example how many clicks it has. and you can also quickly edit your tweet due to the handy “Edit” button. This is important as it will allow you to change the pre-made tweet without having to switch URLs. I would suggest changing your pre-made tweets per game even if it’s just changing the hashtags as this will help target a variety of fan bases. Here are two examples of click to tweets: “Zombies have invaded the ps4 with the release of #capcom’s original #deadrising. Can @twittername fend off the horde? http://ctt.ec/gCrct+” “Ooh-bi-doo, I wan’na be like @twittername I want to walk like twittername, talk like twittername http://ctt.ec/2K6v+ #JungleBook #Virgin”. One last thing to note about these examples is the URLs used have been automatically shortened, for example a link like “www.twitchdoctor.com” will be turned into something similar to this “http://ctt.ec/27Kv” this is to help you keep the character limit down so you don’t waste precious space.
Last Minute Tips:
- Don’t spam your Click To Tweet link as overusing the link will most likely make people not want to use it.
- Make sure you change up the pre-made message each time you change game or start a new stream. This will show your dedication as a streamer.
- Thank people who use your click to tweet to let them know their efforts are appreciated. Remember people don’t have to use the link, they chose too.
- CTT should be optional so that viewers can do it if they chose to. You should not be forcing it on them.
- Don’t over populate your tweet with too many @s or #s it will make your tweet look messy. You should only use one @ and a maximum of three hashtags but even three is pushing it.
