Restream.io is a unique and powerful tool for streamers. This service is a simple and free to use multi-streaming service. What this means is you can simultaneously stream to multiple stream services some examples being; Twitch, Hitbox and YouTube, though there are plenty more. This tool is not necessary however, and is completely optional, but if you plan to use multiple services like twitch and youtube it could be a great way to cater to your audience as a whole.
Where to begin then? well if you head on over to Restream.io you’ll be treated to a Login screen. Presuming this is your first time here you’ll have to create an account to access the service so click on the sign-up link and sign up. Once done head on over back here and we will continue.
All done? Ok then let’s get into the meat of this guide. Welcome to your dashboard, this one page is where a bulk of the magic happens. Here you will find a channel list, stream preview, RTMP URL and your stream key. The great thing about Restream.io is it’s very simple to set up, if you’ve streamed before you’ll be familiar with the RTMP URL & stream key, just like you did when you first set up your stream service whether it be twitch or something like YouTube. Copy and paste your stream key and URL into your streaming program, in this guide I will be showing how to do it in OBS but this can easily be done with other programs like Xsplit. It’s important that you paste both your URL & your stream key, not just one. On OBS you will also have to select custom where it says streaming service.
Ok so you’re almost ready to go, the last thing you need to do is add some channels so Restream knows where your streaming too. On your Restream dashboard you might have noticed the ‘+ add channel’ button, give it a click to load up a list of all the possible services you can use. As I mentioned earlier there is a lot so you’ll be sure to find the services you use. Add all the services you use and desire to stream to here, in the example I’ll be adding YouTube and Twitch. As an added tip click on the cog item on each service to change the server you stream too.
That’s all there is to it if you now go live you will be streaming to all the services you added. But there are a few problems that you will run into now that your streaming to multiple services. First and the biggest problem is how on earth are you going to read all the different chats at once? Well Restream has you covered here as well. Recently they released a chat program which combines all the services into a single chat, meaning you won’t have to open multiple chats. You can just have them all in one window for your convenience. Neat, so what’s the other problem? Well updating your information like the stream title and game on multiple platforms can be a pain. But fear not because Restream once again has you covered, they now have a feature that lets you change your game and title from the Restream website. Streamlining the entire process and saving you a lot of time.
That’s Restream in a nutshell, hopefully this guide has been helpful in guiding you through the Restream service. If you’re looking for more tools you can use while streaming why not check out the tool list I made ‘here’
